Charlton Heston: Secret of the Incas and Machu Picchu (1954)

Video
Good action story of archaeologist-explorer (Heston) in search of lost fabled treasure of gold in ancient city of the Incas. Filmed partly on location in Peru, with a good script, fair direction, and strong performances by a good cast. The scenes showing Machu Picchu, the fabled lost city of the Incas.

SECRET OF THE INCAS is a great little movie, The Times newspaper even described it as an "undiscovered gem". Its never been released onto sell-thru and only rarely crops up on tv but anybody interested in the legendary Peruvian soprano Yma Sumac should try to get hold of a copy of this film on the internet. Its a cracking movie, Heston plays a swindling rogue decked out like Indiana Jones, chewing up the scenery with salty one-liners, and the location shots of Machu Picchu are simply breath-taking. The colourful costumes by Edith Head are great, too, and the movie itself was studied by Spielberg and Lucas before they created Indiana Jones. SECRET OF THE INCAS is terrific fun as well - and there are more than a few references to the Hiram Bingham expedition in 1911.
