Cahuachi: Archeologists in Peru unearth human sacrifices
A team of archaeologists led by Giuseppe Orefici presented a report of this year’s archeological excavation works carried out in Cahuachi, a major ceremonial center of the Nasca civilization in Peru, occupied from between AD 1-500.

Peruvian Music Grupo 5, Monsefu, Chiclayo


Grupo 5 is a great cumbia orchestra from Monsefu, Chiclayo, Peru, created in 1973 by brothers Victor and Elmer Yaipen Uypan. Grupo 5 received the APDAYC (Asociación Peruana de Autores y Compositores/Peruvian Association of Authors and Composers) Award 2008 - Artist Of The Year 2008.

Cahuachi Project and Giuseppe Orefici

Nazca, Peru
The Ceremonial city of Cahuachi is located about 28 kilometres away from the modern city of Nazca, Peru at the lower section of the Nazca Valley, virtually in the middle of the desert. Since 1982, Italian archaeologist Giuseppe Orefici has begun tireless work uncovering the ancient city of the Nazca people.

Inca Music: El Condor Pasa by "Los Calchakis",


Cuzco (Cusco), the Empire Inca Capital, is located at 11,200 ft. above sea level in the Andes Mountains in Southern Peru. According to Inca legend, the city was founded in the 12th century by the first Inca named Manco Capac, who was said to be the son of the sun.

Peruvian Cuisine: Ceviche or Cebiche

Video
In Peru, ceviche is composed of chunks of raw fish, with lime or lemon juice though sometimes bitter orange (naranja agria), sliced onion, minced Peruvian ají limo, or the popular Andean chilli rocoto are included. The mixture is marinated and served at room temperature, often with cancha (toasted kernels of maize), usually referred to as canchita, chunks of corn-on-the-cob, slices of cooked sweet potato and/or white potato, and yuyo (seaweed).

A dish with some similarities to Papa a la Huancaina. It consists of boiled and sliced yellow potatoes covered with a sauce of made of aji (chili pepper), walnuts, a Peruvian herb called "Huatacay" (that gives it a vivid green color) or "Huacatay" as people from Lima, the capital call it, and fresh or white cheese, sided with lettuce, boiled eggs and olives.

Machu Picchu is without doubt the most recognizable symbol of Inca Civilization. "The Inca Trail", as it is known now, was the Royal Highway that led pilgrims and officials of the Empire to the Sacred City of the Incas.

What makes the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu so special is the stunning combination of Inca ruins, incredible views, the Andes scenery, exotic vegetation and extraordinary ecological variety. Over 250 species of orchid have been counted in the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary, as well as numerous birds such as hummingbirds, waterfowl and the majestic Andean Condor.

Built in the 1460s and abandoned for three centuries after the Spanish conquest, Machu Picchu, or “Old Peak” in the Quechua language, was rediscovered by U.S. archeologist Hiram Bingham in 1911.
